There is no maximum number of attempts for UGC NET. However, for Junior research fellowship (JRF), only three attempts are allowed.
For the JRF post, the upper age limit is 30 years (general category) while the Assistant professor post doesn’t have any age limit. .
In order to clear the NET, a candidate belonging to the general category should secure 40% of the total aggregate marks in both the papers taken together and candidates belonging to reserved categories should secure 35% aggregate marks.
Candidates who qualify NET are eligible for lectureship. If they have qualified NET-JRF, they will get the opportunity to do research in prestigious institutions and they will be paid a monthly stipend for a period of two years.
There’s no negative marking in UGC NET.
The application fee to apply for UGC NET is ₹ 1000 for general category candidates, ₹500 for OBC category is /- and ₹250 for SC/ST/PWD/Transgender candidates.
For the award of JRF, UGC NET certificate holds valid for three years from the date of issue. While for lectureship, the certificate has lifetime validity.
